Driving to Chichen Itza: the 180D toll road or the free 180
Two roads run between Merida and Cancun through the Yucatan interior. The 180D is the toll highway, a fenced dual carriageway with few exits. The free federal road 180 follows the same corridor through the villages, including Valladolid and Piste, and it ends at the site's own entrance road. Toll amounts change and we do not print them, so check them before you set off. Once there, our page on parking at Chichen Itza lists the 700-space INAH lot and every alternative within 3 km.
ADO bus to Chichen Itza
ADO is the intercity bus operator that serves the Yucatan peninsula, including Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Merida and Valladolid. Timetables, routes and fares are published on its site and change by season, so we do not reproduce them. Piste, the village 2.8 km in a straight line from the pyramid, is the nearest town on the bus corridor. Colectivos from Valladolid to Chichen Itza
Valladolid is 38 km away in a straight line, the closest city on the list. Colectivos, shared vans that leave when they fill up, run along the free road 180 between Valladolid and Piste. From Merida to Chichen Itza

From Tulum and Playa del Carmen to Chichen Itza
Tulum is 127 km away in a straight line and the road goes inland through Coba and Valladolid before joining the 180.
